Chapter 7: Sun is the final episode of Season Four and 3%. It is preceded by Chapter 06: Buttons.

Plot[]

Waking up to a new reality, the Inland and Offshore factions inch closer to the brink of war -- until a long-lost artifact offers a ray of hope.

Summary[]

Joana, Natália, Elisa, and Rafael arrive back in the Inland.

The Offshore residents enter the Inland. Some are reunited with long-lost family.

Marcela returns home and takes down the photos on the wall. Marcela tells Larissa the rumors are true and Larissa leaves the house, as she had no more reason to stay, now that the Offshore was gone as well as the Process, meaning that there was no point to the Alvareses anymore and there was no need for her to raise the future generations.

Antônio welcomes the Offshore residents, saying it's their duty to welcome them until the Offshore is rebuilt. They offer the Offshore residents food and water. Then a loud bang rings round and a fire starts. Former Shell residents say it's payback for what they did to the Shell. Chaos breaks out.

Process Year 28

Conselheira Patrícia says the Cause is gaining support from people who have failed their Processes. It's time for them to defend themselves with weapons. She proposes opening a security division to protect them. Vitor and Lais would rather resolve it peacefully with a Process test, a test between Offshore and Inland. Lais shows them the test she has planned, which tests the ability to collaborate and put others first. They want to settle the dispute and prove their superiority. If they lose, it'll prove that the Process isn't as perfect as they thought and it may be time to end it. Patricia thinks they're letting thoughts of their daughter rule them, but they say they don't want a war. They put it to a vote and Patricia wins.

Lais finds Vitor watching the video of their daughter from her Process. He tells Lais he wants to go back to the Inland. Their daughter is in danger. Lais says he has to get better first, but he wants to see Tânia before it's too late.

Inland: Two Weeks After the Offshore's Fall

André arrives with armed guard. The Inland residents defend their well. André shoots one and declares that the 3% own the Inland now. His guards take food and leave.

Xavier walks through the Process building. He finds Michele's body and covers her.

Rafael, Elisa, Joana, Natália, and Xavier prepare to burn Michele's body when the old man stops them. He paints the Cause symbol on her shroud to show that despite her actions she fulfilled her mission as a Cause member and will be honored as such and Xavier lays Samira's necklace on top of them to show how she carried Samira’s will, before Rafael lights her body on fire. Everyone watches in sadness as Michele’s body burns to ash. Xavier says they need to bring her justice by killing André. Joana says that's just revenge. Xavier wishes they'd just stayed at the Shell, if they hadn’t been so obsessed with destroying the Offshore, they could have all lived peacefully, still had a home, but now their actions have resulted in loss only. Rafael says he's right because it's been two weeks and people are just killing each other. All the factions want to murder each other. They hear gun fire and scatter.

Rafael and Elisa run into an armed man and flee.

Natália takes Joana to ask the old man a question that could stop the war. They catch up with him and Natália asks about Tânia. The old man tells them he did know her. Natália tells him she was the founding couple's daughter. She was kicked out of the Offshore, but never mentioned that.

Tânia is bleeding to death and the old man as a little boy watches and hears her ask for something back. Something that was her mother's. She told them what it was, but they didn't care, because they were more worried about her. He memorized what she said and went to see what it was but he couldn't get in. When he got back, she was dead. He's still not sure what she wanted. He thought it was some knick knack, but it might be something else.

Lais watches in horror as the security division hunts members of the Cause and kills them. Meanwhile, Vitor gets sicker. Lais tells him she's going to find their daughter. Lais watches video of her daughter on her want to the Inland. She finds a Cause symbol painted on the wall and follows it. Tânia is surprised to see her. Lais came to get her because her father is sick, but Tânia doesn't believe her, thinking it’s a made up lie to arrest her. Laís assures her that she isn’t lying because of the war as she and Vítor were against it. To prove it, she tries to show her a picture of Tânia’s dad, but Tânia holds her at gunpoint and furiously tells her that she won’t go anywhere with her, regardless if she’s telling the truth or not. Laís asks her to calm down and reminds her that she is still her mother. Tânia shouts at her, saying if even now she tests her, reminding her that she cares more for tests than actual people. She expresses regret for creating the Process, the Division that destroyed the lives of countless people, including themselves, but Tânia orders her to leave. Lais tries to follow Tânia, but gets stopped by some people who want her technology. She gets held at gunpoint and calls out for Tânia as she is shot. Tânia is horrified to see her mother's dead body. They have her technology, but Tânia orders it buried with her.

Natália wants to find the thing Tânia was talking about, but Joana doesn't believe anyone will care. Natália says that they were the ones who divided the world, and if the Founding Couple regretted everything, people need to know that.

Rafael goes to his house. His mother isn't happy to see him. His brothers are out fighting. She's not sure what they're fighting for. He apologizes for leaving and she says he can stay if he wants. She gives him a little food, which he eats. She says that in the end, all her sons abandoned her like he did. She says her life since failing her Process has been one failure after another. He says the same of himself. She's been carrying around the feeling of elimination ever since. He says it shouldn't have to be that way.

Natália asks Joana what she expected to happen and Joana admits she doesn't know. She was kind of hoping after they destroyed the Offshore, they'd have a meeting like they used to at the Shell. Everyone had a voice in those meetings. They'd come together to solve problems. But that's make-believe. In real life, a massacre would start. Natália wants to make that happen. She has an idea how to do it.

Elisa is taken to see André.

Xavier is taken to Ricardo and Wander as a new recruit. He reveals that he scraped off his vaccination mark and renounced the Offshore. He needs their help to murder André. They decide they can use his help killing what's left of the Offshore.

André accepts Elisa back because she's from the Offshore. But before he can do that, she must accept him as the Founding Couple's heir. He offers his hand for her to kiss. She does so reluctantly. He wants her ready to treat the wounded when the Shell residents attack. Then they'll rebuild the Offshore right there. Anyone who fails to see their superiority will die.

Natália and Joana climb down into the sewer and start digging. They find the technology Lais was buried with.

Vitor calls for Lais, but Patricia comes and tells him Lais is gone.

Patricia speaks to the Offshore, saying the illness took both Lais and Vitor. They'l remain together in their graves. Then she speaks to the Council and says the Founders were weak. They're the only ones who know what really happened to Lais and can contain it. They erase the pictures of the Founding Couple to make people stop seeing them as humans. They must be an idea instead because ideas liver forever.

Antônio says the Founding Couple came to him in a dream and told him a war is fated to begin. All the factions prepare for battle. Rafael boards up his mother's house. Marcela leaves Mauricio and tells him to hide and ration his food. Antônio says it's time for war. Glória is upset.

Marcela tells Mauricio to go find Glória at the church if she takes too long to come back.

The fighting starts. All the factions come out and prepare.

Joana pulls out the technology and they realize they've found what they were looking for. They open it to see pictures of the Founding Couple and videos of Tânia. It just has photos and a map and a test, like a Process test. Natália thinks Joana was right after all.

Rafael tries to comfort his brother. Then he tells his mother to lock the door and leaves to go get his brothers.

The plan is to attack at dusk. All the fighters are in place.

Joana enters the middle of the road, between all the factions. She holds up the device. Someone fires at her, but she tells them it belonged to the Founding Couple. She came to end the war. Verônica approaches her, but she proceeds anyway. She tells them what happened with Lais. She shows them a video of the Founding Couple introducing the ultimate test. Six candidates will participate and one will win. They'll get to choose what happens to the Inland and everyone else must answer to them. Zero violence. She has a proposal if she should win and challenges others to go against her. Xavier accepts the challenge, along with Verônica, Marcela, and Rafael. Joana specifically calls out André to take the final spot, which he does reluctantly. He tells Pedro to start shooting if things go south.

With the six candidates selected, Joana starts the test. They're each given a specific symbol out of three color and three shape options, nine total possibilities. The goal is to find out your opponents' symbols. The person who has the device will guess a symbol, then it will go to the person whose symbol was guessed. Two wrong guesses will eliminate you. If someone guesses your symbol, you're eliminated. Last one standing wins. Each candidate is shown only their own symbol. Whoever gets the device first gets the first guess. Marcela gets it and guesses red circle for Xavier. She learns it's a circle, but not red. Xavier gets the next guess. He thinks André has a blue square and is wrong. André guesses green circle for Xavier and eliminates him. Rafael guesses next that Verônica has a green triangle. He's wrong. Verônica guesses red square for Joana and misses. Joana gives the same guess for Verônica. It's red, but not a square. If Verônica gets another wrong guess, she's out. She guesses Rafael has a blue square. It's square, but not blue and Verônica is out. She gives Rafael the next guess, knowing a wrong one will eliminate him. He guesses red square for Marcela. It's a square, but not red and Rafael is out. Rafael gives the ball to Joana and says he had the green square, so now they know the blue square is Marcela's, so she's easy to eliminate. Marcela is out, leaving Joana versus André. Marcela gives André the next guess and refuses to help him. He guesses green triangle. Triangle is correct, but green is not, giving him a strike. Joana tells the crowd if she wins, everyone will have to destroy their weapons and tomorrow, they'll all go to the Process building for a general assembly, the first assembly where everyone has a voice to be heard. That's her only command if she wins. André says if he wins, the Inland will be his and the 3%'s. Others will bow down to the Founding Couple's chosen ones or die, starting with Joana. Joana thinks through the options. She narrows it down using the answers she knows are wrong. It's either a red triangle or a red square. One is hers and one is Verônica's. She has to take a shot. She guesses red triangle, but André gives the signal and Pedro fires, breaking the device and causes chaos. Joana is angry because she knows she won. André orders his troops into battle, but Pedro asks if Joana was right. André elbows him in the face as an answer.

Antônio tries to calm people and claims the test was sacrilegious. The factions start again to prepare for battle. He says they must bow down to the worthy, but Glória speaks up to his crowd, asking if they really believe the world they live in is fair.

Xavier knows that living will be worse for André, knowing he lost to someone he considers inferior.

Natália is hopeful that people will follow Joana's idea. Joana's worried they'll just kill each other.

Glória continues to talk about her experience with the Process and discovering that it's all a lie. He wants them to listen to Joana and make a difference. The crowd disagrees with her and she flees with Ariel.

Joana and Rafael sit on a roof and reminisce about their first meeting. They hug for a few moments. They have to stay on high alert for the night. As long as things are peaceful, they won.

Rafael, Natália, and Joana wake in the morning. The sun is up and things are peaceful. They look down to see people heading for the Process building. Elisa is reunited with the other three. Artur is back with his mother. Even Marcela and André are at the Process building. André slips away and boards a submarine without enough oxygen to reach the Offshore. As he travels, he imagines Michele there with him and cries.

Everyone is gathered inside the Process building and things are peaceful.
